Broken. Every time that word comes up I immediately go back in my mind to a day when I was in second grade. I was taken out of class and informed by my teacher and principal that my mother, on her way to pick me and my sisters up from school, was involved in a horrible automobile accident. We would find out later that she had barely survived and had suffered terrible injuries and several broken bones. I still remember going into the hospital room and seeing my strong and athletic mother lying in the bed “broken.”
My mother went through the grueling process of physical therapy after this awful accident and would completely recover from her injuries. She would tell me many years later that the most difficult thing was to begin the process of recovery because she had to have help to do almost everything that she normally would be able to do on her own. You would be hard pressed to even know that she was in this accident if you met her today! God has been good!
Each of us have experienced things in life that have “broken” us. A lost job, a failing relationship, financial hardship, a poor report from our doctor, a dashed dream, or the death of a loved one. Life has a way of breaking us. Is there hope for those of us who have been broken? The Scripture states this wonderful truth about our Lord: “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3
With God’s help and the principles of truth found in Scripture, you can recover completely from the brokenness in life! God specializes in repairing our brokenness and causing us to be even stronger after the process of healing than before the initial hurt. Each of us must begin the healing process as difficult as it may be. Are you broken? There is hope today in a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ who was broken for our sins in order to heal us spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and most importantly, eternally.
I invite you to start the New Year out right by faithfully attending a Bible-teaching church. I would be thrilled to welcome you to visit the Pinecrest Baptist Church! I will be preaching an eight week Sunday morning sermon series entitled: “Broken.” Our church family would be honored to greet you and encourage you on your journey today.
